A watched kettle. The divers watch.

The ubiquitous divers timepiece. Every mariner should have one.

Divers watch

My colleagues in the sales department tell me that they will look at a persons watch and make instant judgements about them. Since the silent luxury or stealth wealth movement has become more popular, many people are choosing to be understated, no outgoing signs that could pigeonhole them financially or socially, some people have even given up on wearing a watch.

I would like to put forward that the perfect timepiece is a divers watch, it ticks all of the right boxes and allows you to slip under the radar, the perfect accessory for everyone. It should be considered in the same category as other perfect items or accessories, such as Hunter wellington boots or Barber jackets for example, worn by everyone from market street traders to lords of the manner.

Why a divers watch is just so flawless

Image

None better, it can identify you as a rufty tufty diver and boaty type, no nonsense, or the type of person who simply needs to see what time it is, you see a divers analogue watch generally only tells them time, maybe the date too. 007 had a couple of different dive watches, and they went very well with a tuxedo. It is not a statement piece, nor a piece of jewelry where timekeeping plays almost no part. A dive watch is singular in purpose, not a smart watch but, can be a very smart watch indeed.

Durability

It should be obvious, this kind of watch is used for diving, so it´s fully waterproof and shockproof, I can also testify that my own dive watch (nothing near as nice as the one in the above photo), has in fact resisted diesel, gasoline, various acids, physical knocks and bumps and the litmus test of toughness, bilge water, which by any standard is well known to be the most corrosive substance on the planet, even alien blood pales by comparison to the mixture of noxious liquids that one can find in a bilge.

Price

You can buy dive watches costing more than a very nice car or holiday, but you don´t have to, you can become part of the club with a very modest outlay, some of the timepieces from Japan are some of the most original, accurate and most well regarded, as well as being very affordable.

So there you have it, whether you are a diver, mariner or landlubber, get a divers watch and whatever else should happen, you´ve got that timepiece problem covered.
